It's been a busy sort of week. I have started a Sculpture class at the BIA with Karl De Waal and already there is lots of work to do. It's tax time and apart from that we've all been a little unwell which just makes everything harder. I didn't get a chance to post these during the week but last Saturday, Heck and I went out late and made some light paintings. This is a first for us so we were just trying out ideas and having fun. Some things worked and others didn't. Heck made the swirly red and green images which I think were the best of the night.

Suibokuga was cancelled last week, so this week was week 2 and that means more bamboo. My water and ink ratios look better this time and overall this is a better piece. Yumiko suggested we sign our names and she stamped it for me. I'm not well versed in the meanings of the stamps but apparently this one loosely translates to 'Sunny Day'.

My filing system is telling me I haven't made lino prints since January. It's kind of not surprising since after starting so well, my last effort just went all wrong. Days and days of work without getting any really good prints.
This time I have decided to keep it simple. I have cut 9 of theses 10cm squares and made a rig to sit them in which keeps them an inch apart and the idea is to make a bunch of prints but move the squares around each time so each printed image is different. Perhaps with one or two odd colours thrown into the mix.
Funnily enough it's started raining again in the last few days, which is exactly what happened the last time I tried to make prints and the humidity seems to affect these water based inks, they go too runny and I can't get a good print. Will have to wait till the weather dries out again.

My Squid drawing has been selected as a finalist in this years Marie Ellis OAM Prize for Drawing at Jugglers Art Space. I'm pretty excited about it. I had a bit of trouble getting to sleep last night.

I'm putting off doing some printing from the latest set of Lino's I've been working on. It feels like a lot of effort so I'm procrastinating. Instead I made this charcoal and pastel drawing of Poppa Joe, our friend and neighbour. Apart from being the grandfather of one of our daughters dear friends, Joe fixes stuff for us, plays with our kids and lets me drink his home brew. Joe's truly indispensable. No home should be without one.

Here is the finished Fish Eye painting. When I set out on the fish theme, part of the goal was to pursue more abstract form and colour and I'm happy to say that it all got pretty loose in the end. There's some nice swirling brush strokes, dribbles and splats in there.

It's been a been a busy sort of week for making art. The fish heads are getting 2 pack epoxy "glass coats", I've started a new painting of a Fish's Eye and I'm almost ready to make a few prints from this set of lino cuts I've been working on. Apart from that I've also been fooling around with inkspace and I got a few ideas for some light paintings I wanna do with Heck Tate. Fun.
